Harry Potter and the Goblet of Cheese

Last night saw the latest instalment of the Potter franchise. Expectations were quite high as the 4th book is regarded by many as the best. On the whole the film did the story justice (apparently), getting through the long plot without too much butchery. Sadly the acting was generally poor, especially from the young trio (again). While Potter was mildly better than usual they generally came across very wooden and not convincing at all. Brendan Gleeson deserves a mention as an exception as he played "Mad Eye Moody" very well and kept me interested all the way through the film. There were some good CG effects in places but the enjoyment of these was punctuated by corny/cheesy acting/dialogue. Ron's two older twin brothers have to be given special mention as most annoying characters/actors ever - they were like Jar Jar Binks but ten times worse. I still think the 3rd film is the best so far. p.s. saw trailers for Kong and Narnia - both look like they have potential for CG thrills but not sure they'll come up with the goods as a whole.

Binge Culture?

What do you guys think about the new laws to do with late night hours for pubs etc.? Most guys in the office think they are great and that it will actually reduce binge drinking. I've not been sure what to make of the discussion but in my gut it feels like another step on the slippery slope to an increasingly licentious/drunken society. What was Britain like in the days just prior to the 18thC revivals? Are we experiencing anything new or have we been here before? (by the way the photo is of a friend in a moment of X-Box frenzy!)

A little window for Huffheims

Just a little window of our green and pleasant land for Huffheims to look upon whilst quietly supping a glass of port in a foreign place. How does life across the pond compare? Does the white man speak with forked tongue over there? What are the first impressions of "an Englishman in Boston"? Have the Huffheim Jnr's started talking with a funny accent yet?

Smile

Elijah has started smiling! All the stinky nappies and irrational wailing are as nothing compared with this contented smiling face. He's just over 5 weeks old now and steadily growing. I'd love to say that a routine has developed but we're still working on it! He generally wakes up around 2.30am and 5.30am for a feed but is good at going back to sleep after he's fed (I try to mumur encouragements from my slumber). Mummy King is doing a stirling job and is recovering well from the marathon. I'm managing to stay awake at work which is a bonus when you bear in mind that I help make computer systems to control the jet engines for commercial aircraft!
